Prologue - The Growing Storm
.

Tuesday 2nd September

Worrying Developments

In the three months since I left Cauldron and moved to Sasserine I have found life to be interesting and good. There are so many stories to hear, certainly more than in the fairly closed environment of Cauldron, my music is well received and has allowed me to earn a living. The landlord of the Coughing Hydra now provides me with a free room and two meals a day as long as the only inn I play is his, certainly it is a good deal for me.

Of course as with all good things that happen in my life it was bound to come crashing down around my ears.

The cause of this trouble was a small piece of paper, a letter from my good friend Ord. Although letters from Ord are not unknown this one contains events that trouble me greatly and undoubtedly spell a new chapter in my life that is likely to lead to more trouble than ever before.

Ord tells of disappearances in Cauldron, although I am certain they cannot all be linked to the horrors of the lake. Still they are worrying a show that there is a darkness lurking in Cauldron, a darkness that needs to be brought out into the light.

In addition to the grave events in Cauldron Ord mentions that Anari has a new group of friends that he does not care for. This troubles me as much as the disappearances. Anari has always been able to find trouble but never a way out of it. I knew I should have stayed in Cauldron to ensure her safety, as I have done in the past.

Taking Action

The letter from Ord troubled me greatly so I formulated a plan.

I drafted some posters, as inviting and intriguing as possible, with the right turn of phrase to attract those personages that would be interested in resolving the disappearances with the obvious promise of reward. I hope there is reward Ord never mentioned one but I am sure there will be.

I am now sitting in the Coughing Hydra waiting for people to respond, I put enough up all over Sasserine, surely there will be some people with an adventuring spirit that want to do good in this fetid city.

The landlord keeps looking over and the inn is calling to me. I am trying to ignore it, my mood is dark and it will effect my playing certainly I am not in the mood to tell stories tonight.

To the Abyss with it, I will play for the inn one last time. The door is visible from my playing position, any strangers will be visible to me from there and if they look like they are ready to travel they are likely to be responding to my call.

No matter if no one responds I will head to Cauldron myself and offer what assistance I can to Ord and find out what trouble Anari has got herself into this time.
